Sam Roberts-Smith joins The Ten Tenors!

Australia’s rockstars of the opera have just gained a new recruit: Sam Roberts-Smith, an acclaimed opera singer and brother of Australian war hero Ben Roberts-Smith.

The TEN Tenors are undoubtedly one of Australia’s greatest entertainment success stories, with more than 90 million people worldwide witnessing their unmistakable charm, camaraderie and vocal power. Following 16 years of sell-out performances across the globe, The TEN Tenors have cemented their place as Australia’s premier classical-crossover group, and they are now thrilled to welcome Sam Roberts-Smith as the newest member of the group. Sam will join The TEN Tenors for their upcoming tours of Queensland, Australia and Korea in April 2015.

Sam graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma in Opera from The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. The following year he joined Opera Australia, and after completing his time in the Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist Program and as a member of the ensemble, Sam was added to the OA Principal Artist roster. Over six years, Sam successfully performed and covered a large number of supporting and principal roles including in OA productions of Carmen (Sydney Harbour), Il trovatore, Don Giovanni, A Midsummer Nights Dream, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, La Boheme and The Magic Flute.

In 2014, Sam was asked by the Prime Minister to sing the National Anthem at the National Memorial Service for the victims of Flight MH17. His brother, Ben Roberts-Smith, is a Victoria Cross for Australia recipient, the highest honour in the Australian honours system, and at the time was the most highly decorated member of the Australian Defence Force.

Sam says, “I am thrilled and excited to be joining the Ten Tenors! For years the Ten Tenors have wowed audiences around the world. It is amazing for me to be part of that. I can’t wait to join the team!”

On Broadway: Behind the Red Curtain

The TEN Tenors producer D-J Wendt never really envisaged the group doing an entirely Broadway-themed show.

For starters, what’s a Broadway show with ten leading men and not a single leading lady? Secondly, if the Tenors aren’t singing the likes of Puccini, they’re singing Meatloaf and Queen – that’s the way it’s always been. Thirdly, ‘Broadway’, is synonymous with ‘kick-line’, and Wendt couldn’t ask that of his boys… Could he? Read more
