BENJAMIN KIEHNE (Piano)
Benjamin Kiehne is a musical director, accompanist, producer and piano teacher from Sydney. He studied at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music and the Australian Institute of Music under the guidance of acclaimed pianists such as Luba Totoeva, Gian Franco-Ricci, Dave MacRae and Greg Coffin. Although being classically trained, Ben has a strong passion for musical theatre. He has been involved with musicals since 2011 and most recently was involved with Musical Directing The Original Grease (Squabbalogic). He has also been involved with musical directing HAIR (Exclaim Theatre Company), Glory Days (Exclaim Theatre Conpany), Spring Awakening (Stagetek), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Carrie: The Musical (Squabbalogic), which was nominated for Best Music Direction under the Theatre Peoples Pro Choice Awards 2013.
Ben’s theatre involvement has also spread across into the cabaret world when he served as Musical Director for Dash Kruck’s (Violet, Spring Awakening) character cabaret, I Might Take My Shirt Off, at The Hayes Theatre. He has been strongly involved with the Australian cabaret scene including works such a Brendan Hay’s Cruello DeVil, Lady Sings it Better, Triage! A nursing cabaret with guts!, and Tales of a Time Travelling Songstress.
Ben has recently been performing with electronic artist Montgomery on her Australian National Tour, and on The Morning Show and The Voice Live Shows, featuring onstage with artists such as Robbie Balmer, Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Anja Nissen and the Madden Brothers. He has most recently been involved as Associate Music Producer of Australia’s Got Talent and The X Factor, and has joined The Ten Tenors on their most recent tours through New Zealand and the USA.
