Sam Roberts-Smith graduated from WAAPA with a BMus and Graduate Diploma in Opera. Following his studies, he took a full time position with Opera Australia, firstly as a member of the Young Artist Program before joining the Principle Artist roster. During his time at OA, Sam performed in an impressive number of performances and gained valuable experience in a large number of productions. In 2017 Sam will travel to Germany to join the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

He has performed as a guest artist at both the 80th Birthday Gala concert for Richard Bonynge and Dame Joan Sutherland’s 80th Birthday Gala concert. In 2014 Sam performed the Australian Anthem at the National Memorial for Flight MH17 at the request of the Prime Minister of Australia. The following year Sam was invited back to perform at the first anniversary of the event.

Sam has won numerous competitions and awards including the Opera Foundation Deutsche Oper Berlin Award, the Australian Singing Competition, the Joan Sutherland Vocal Scholarship and winner of multiple prizes at the International Paris Opera Awards held in Paris.

In 2015 Sam was offered a position as one of two inaugural Mentored Artists with The West Australian Opera while also joining The TEN Tenors. The same year he was selected as the Australian representative at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition held in Amsterdam, made his China debut and performed with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Sam has performed extensively in Australia and overseas with performances in The United States, France, The Netherlands, China, Korea, and The United Kingdom.
